O'Neill Asked About Three Former USC Committments Leading Arizona In Scoring

Jan 28, 2011 10:16 PM

Head coach Kevin O'Neill was asked about three one-time commitments, Derrick Williams, Solomon Hill and MoMo Jones, who all ended up in Arizona.

"They're all excellent players, and you feel the effects when you look at our roster and there's no sophomores and one junior," said O'Neill. "We lost basically two classes and 12 players in one year, so we feel fortunate to have been competitive last year, and we feel fortunate to be competitive this year."

Jan 21, 2011 6:32 AM

Isaiah Thomas had 22 points and 10 assists as No. 20 Washington defeated No. 25 Arizona in a Pac-10 battle on Thursday night.

The victory allowed the Huskies to take sole possession of first place in the Pac-10.

"Isaiah Thomas, it's not even close, there's not one player in the country who's more disrespected across the nation than him. Not one. It's not even close," Arizona coach Sean Miller said. "If he's not one of the top four or five point guards in the country, then I'm going to tell you I want to invite these guys who vote to come and watch film."

Arizona Recruit Turner To Leave High School

Jan 12, 2011 8:54 AM

Sacramento high school basketball star Josiah Turner will leave the school Wednesday, according team coach Derek Swafford.

"All his mom would say is that the family wants to go another way," Swafford told the Sacramento Bee. "She didn't say why, but the parting was amicable. There is no malice. We've got to let go, even though we still want him here."

Turner, a 6-foot-3 senior point guard, signed a letter of intent in November to attend Arizona.

He did not show up to play in Sac High's Metro Conference opener against Burbank on Friday.

Swafford said that Turner called the following morning and explained that he missed the game for "family reasons."

Before the game, University of Arizona president Robert Shelton spoke from midcourt to the crowd at McKale Center. He thanked Stanford for cooperating with the postponement and he praised doctors at nearby University Medical Center, where the shooting victims were taken.

Arizona won the game, 67-57, in front of 14,374 fans.

Arizona Postpones Game After Shooting

Jan 8, 2011 10:11 PM

Arizona postponed its game against Stanford on Saturday after U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head earlier in the day.

An assailant opened fire outside a grocery store in Tucson, Ariz., while Giffords met with constituents, killing five people, including a 9-year-old girl and a federal judge.

"The university feels the game should be delayed with deep respect to the victims and families impacted by this tragedy," Arizona athletics director Greg Byrne said.

The game was rescheduled for Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET.
